Northwest Heath Care Associates has partnered with Affinity Clinical Research Institute (ACRI) to offer clinical research trials as part of our healthcare delivery model.  Under the partnership, ACRI coordinators will work closely with the Northwest Health Care Associates  (NWHCA) team to provide safe and convenient opportunities for patients to participate in clinical trials while allowing NWCHA’s physicians to focus on their day to day practice. ACRI clinical research coordinators will assist NWHCA physicians in conducting clinical research at all 3 NWCHA locations per internationally established guidelines.

Clinical trials are structured research studies, involving patient volunteers that are conducted to help answer specific questions about new therapies, medical devices, and vaccines. All advances in the treatment of disease were brought about through clinical trials. Participating in clinical research allows NWHCA physicians to be on the cutting edge of advanced therapies and treatments. NWHCA patients and volunteers get the opportunity to help advance medical treatments through active participation.  There is no cost incurred by the patient to participate and in many cases, patients are reimbursed for their time.

We are currently enrolling patients in the following studies:

Ulcerative Colitis:

  • An 8-week long double-blind study to evaluate the safety and efficacy for Induction and maintenance of an investigative medication in patients with moderate to severely Active Ulcerative Colitis with the possibility to enroll in an Open-Label Extension study, in patients that have failed steroids, azathioprine, methotrexate, or newer biologics
  • A 12-week long double-blind study to evaluate  the safety and efficacy of an investigative medication in patients with Active Ulcerative Colitis who have failed treatment with mesalamine
