Frequently Asked Questions about Juvederm

JUVÉDERM is the smooth gel filler that your doctor uses to instantly smooth away wrinkles. With just one treatment, you’ll get smooth and natural-looking results that last up to a year.

JUVÉDERM is manufactured using HYLACROSS technology, creating a smooth-consistency gel. It is infused with lidocaine to improve comfort during treatment. With JUVÉDERM® you get the smooth results you expect, with the improved comfort you want.

Everyone will notice, but no one will know.

How does JUVÉDERM work?
Young, healthy-looking skin contains an abundance of a naturally hydrating substance called hyaluronic acid (HA). But as you age, sunlight and other factors can reduce the amount of HA in your skin. The lack of HA causes your skin to lose structure and volume, creating unwanted facial wrinkles and folds – like those parentheses lines around your nose and mouth.

Using a dermal filler like JUVÉDERM is a safe and effective way to replace the HA your skin has lost, bringing back its volume and smoothing away facial wrinkles and folds.

What areas are treated with JUVÉDERM?
JUVÉDERM is for injection into the mid to deep dermis (below the outer layer of the skin) for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Some examples include:

  • Plump up folds that run from the bottom of the nose to the corners of the mouth
  • Reduce the “Marionette lines,” the downturned creases in the corner of the mouth
  • Augment thin or aging lips

Do you offer free consultations?
Yes, we offer free consultations. If you decide at the time of the consultation that you would like to go ahead with the services, then we can provide those at the same visit.

There are two different types of JUVÉDERM Northwest Health Care offers

  • JUVÉDERM Ultra
  • JUVÉDERM Ultra Plus

What is the difference?
The main difference is consistency. JUVÉDERM Ultra it thinner and more appropriate for fine wrinkles and folds in the skin. JUVÉDERM Ultra Plus is thicker and more appropriate for deep wrinkles, folds, and scars. JUVÉDERM Ultra Plus offers more volume for dramatic results that will last longer.

What is the average amount of JUVÉDERM I will need per treatment?
This will vary from one client to the next. On average, most clients receive 1 or 2 syringes of JUVÉDERM per visit.

What type of payment do you accept?
Payment is due at the time of service. For your convenience we accept cash and all major credit cards. We are also members of Brilliant Distinctions.

How long does JUVÉDERM last?
JUVÉDERM is indicated for up to a year in the nasolabial folds. Beyond that, results vary from client to client. For example, the average lip treatment only lasts for about 6 months due to higher blood flow in that area.

The great thing about JUVÉDERM is that a touch-up can be performed any time you like after the previous treatment.

What makes JUVÉDERM different than other dermal fillers?
JUVÉDERM is the only hyaluronic Acid filler approved to last up to one year. The manufacturing process provides high concentration of cross-linked hyaluronic acid for long-lasting results. It also works to create a smooth consistency gel that flows easily into the skin and provides a smooth, natural look and feel. Other hyaluronic acid fillers currently on the market are made of granular consistency gels

JUVÉDERM injectable gel is now formulated with lidocaine, a common anesthetic used to improve the comfort of treatment.

Yes. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body and therefore it also dissolves naturally with time and is integrated into your body’s tissues. Over time, the molecules dissolve and turn into water as they depart without leaving any trace in your body.

Much like any cosmetic treatment, it’s important to consult with your doctor before deciding on a JUVÉDERM.

Can JUVÉDERM be personalized to my needs?
One size doesn’t fit all when it comes to wrinkle treatment. A customized treatment plan is important for achieving the best results. That’s why JUVÉDERM is available in two formulations. This allows our healthcare professionals to tailor treatment to meet your unique needs

What should I do to prepare for my appointment?
We recommend that you avoid any medications that can prolong bleeding, such as aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs), for at least a week prior to receiving the treatment for wrinkles in order to reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site. Please always check with your primary physician to see if discontinuing any medication is appropriate.

***If you want JUVÉDERM filler in your lips, please let us know if you have herpes simplex virus (also known as “cold sores” or “fever blisters”). For your comfort we will recommend that you call your physician for treatment as if you were experiencing an outbreak. JUVÉDERM does not cause outbreaks, but can trigger a non-active outbreak***

We will also need to know if you are allergic to Lidocaine prior to your appointment.

How long will the procedure take?
The procedure takes approximately 15-30 minutes.

What should I expect after the treatment?
You may experience pain, tenderness, temporary redness, swelling, bruising, firmness, and bumps at the injection sites. Studies have shown that these are usually mild to moderate in nature and clear up on their own in 7 days or less. If you experience swelling at the injection site, you can apply an ice pack for a brief period.

Are there any restrictions post treatment?
You should avoid the following for at least 24 hours after treatment:
– Strenuous exercise
– Consumption of alcoholic beverages
– Extended exposure to sun or heat

Other Considerations
In addition, you and your healthcare professional should discuss the following important treatment considerations in order to help avoid unsatisfactory results and complications when using JUVÉDERM injectable gel:

  • Patients who are using substances that can prolong bleeding may experience increased bruising or bleeding at the injection site. You should inform our healthcare professionals before treatment if you are using these types of substances.
  • If laser treatment, chemical peeling, or any other procedure based on active dermal response is considered after treatment with JUVÉDERM injectable gel, there is a possible risk of an inflammatory reaction at the treatment site.
  • Women should not consider JUVÉDERM if you are pregnant or may become pregnant.
