EKGs: Heart Health Peace of Mind
An electrocardiogram or EKG (or ECG) is a non-invasive and painless test of heart health. Electrodes touching the skin of the patient measure the electrical pulsations the heart sends as its four chambers pump in rhythmic fashion. The result is a graph of heart pulsations which reveal regularity or deviations from the norm–or show how a pace maker is performing as the case may be.
At Medical Imaging Center, we can perform EKG’s while the patient is at rest and/or as part of a cardiac stress test.
An EKG is performed for various reasons, such as to seek …
–A possible reason for dizziness, fainting spells, chest pain, irregular heart beats or arrhythmia, shortness of breath
–Evidence of irregularities in heart muscle thickness or heart valve issues
–The present condition of a known condition such as high blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol problems, and heart attacks
–The performance of a drug that may affect the heart.
Not all irregularities an EKG test may show up are serious. Others are best treated early, so for heart health and peace of mind, it is often a good idea to get your heart checked.
